Royal Oak Sapling – Limited Edition from the Royal Estate
This is our exclusive limited edition Royal Oak saplings which was planted on 31st May in our field to start our Jubilee celebrations. To commemorate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012, the Jubilee Woods Project from the Woodland Trust aims to plant 6 million trees in woods, parks, schools and gardens, across the UK. The very special oak saplings have each been grown from acorns gathered, with kind permission, from a royal estate, enabling us to enjoy our own life-long memento of this historic occasion.

We received a message from South Africa today.
Dear Mrs Trigg,
Congratulations to you all on arranging the visit of David Cameron: very exciting for the children and staff, and quite a coup for you. My granddaughters, Molly and Susan, have told me about your very exciting Diamond Jubilee activitities and have been enthusiastically taking part. It is so much to all of your credit that on top of a busy teaching schedule you invovle the children in much wider way in matters of their community and their country, broadening their horizons and extending their knowledge in much more than an academic way. I would like to thank all those of you at The Blake who have anything to do with Susan and Molly. They love their school and are thriving and achieving well there, and I am personally grateful for the professionalism, caring and commitment to the children in your care which is so evident at The Blake.
Best Wishes to you and your staff for a happy time over the Jubilee celebrations. Jenny R - Nana to Susan and Molly in KwaZulu/Natal South Africa.

Here is what David Cameron had to say after his visit to the school:
“I very much enjoyed my visit to Blakes School in Witney to see for myself their plans for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. I was extremely impressed by the effort, care and enthusiasm that the children have put into this very special event – especially the Great British Blake Off! I am sure that the street party and the Jubilee fete will be a great success and I hope that the sun shines for you!” DAVID CAMERON

It seemed like a dream when Clare helped us make this film to invite the The Prime Minister to The Blake Primary School, however he watched our brilliant message, read the letter from our school council and....
did come to visit our school on Friday.

DONATIONS BOX FOR STREET PARTY IS NOW IN THE LIBRARY
Thank you for your support and kindness for any items such as tableware and tablecloths for our whole school street party.

The collection box designed by Will D. in year 6 that was sent to the Queen and David Cameron for small change.
This is a major fundraising effort we launched in November. Thank you for all your hard work collecting small change, we are doing really well and the children enjoy posting their pennies into the main collection box outside the hall. We still need to collect as much small change as we can, as we are going to use the money to create a portrait of the Queen on our celebration day,
We have also created boxes for David Cameron and George Osborne. Andrew’s Estate Agents have sponsored our collection boxes for local shops and businesses.
If you can help us by having a collection box at your place of work, please get in touch.
Throughout the year we will be filming our efforts in order to create a lasting memory of the event. The children, led by the School Council, have written to Buckingham Palace to ask the Queen which charity she would like the money donated to in her honour. They will also shortly be sending press releases to the local and national media to let them know what we are doing.
Please check out our video message to the Queen and Prime Minister in our Events News or at http://vimeo.com/36642381
We are aware that in this time of recession that money is short for many families. We are very grateful for any help you can give us; we are literally collecting small change, the more pennies and two pences the better!
The children will also be raising money themselves with a series of Busker’s Break times scheduled to take place in April and May. They will be dressing up, setting up in a little area of the playground in order to entertain with singing, dancing, acting and joke telling etc. They can be in groups, partners or on their own. We will invite the local community in to watch the buskers and reward them by putting coins in their buckets. The Friends of the Blake School have kindly offered to provide refreshments for these events and we are hoping they will be a very enjoyable end to the school day, as well as raising lots of money for charity.
DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATION DAY – Thursday MAY 31ST 2012
On the actual celebration day itself we will start the events by holding a Thanksgiving Assembly. The centrepiece of this service will be a prayer, written with collaboration from the whole school during RE week and set to music and the planting of a special
Royal Oak sapling, grown on the Sandringham estate, which has been donated to the school, along with 60 other saplings, by the Jubilee Woods project.

We will be creating our portrait of the Queen during the morning, with all the children taking part.

There will be a baking competition, The Great British Blake Off, which will be judged after break-time.
The categories will include:
Most Royal Cake,
Best Victoria Sponge,
Best decorated cake
and Best cupcake display,
there will be awards for both adults and children in each category. More details will follow closer to the event. We would be grateful if, after judging, the cakes could be donated for the street party please.
During the afternoon we will be holding a massive Street Party’ with a 1950’s theme. We would like everyone in the school to wear 1950’s fancy dress for the day and there will be prizes for the best outfits – for boys and girls in KS1 and KS2 as well as an award for the best dressed adult! http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=street+party+jubilee&um
During the school day, the children will be receiving a commemorative medal. We will be holding a series of Jeans Days to partly fund these as well as being supported as always, by the Friends of the Blake.
At the end of the school day, The Friends of the Blake have organised a
Jubilee Fete with Pig Roast
and entertainment, Andrews Estate Agents are also running a couple of fund raising stalls for the school during this event... more details to follow.
I am sure you will agree that this is going to be a very exciting day for children and adults alike. We are very excited about our plans to celebrate the occasion and make it a memorable day for the children. More information will follow closer to the event but please ask if you have any queries or can offer to help before or during the event.
